October 2025 - Excellent performance of EMIC researchers at Radiology Research Symposium

Two of our young research members were awarded with the first prize for the best abstract contribution to this year’s Radiology Research Symposium held at the Betty Irene More Hall on October 22. David Melnichuk won in the category of best undergraduate submission for his investigations of lesions detectability of PET images that were denosied with artificial intelligence tools. Furthermore, Shivani took the prize for the best post- doctoral contribution for her evaluation of 18F-FAPI-74 total-body PET as a quantitative biomarker for fibrosis staging in Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD). Congratulations to both winners! 

Once a year, the Department of Radiology organizes a symposium to show the current research projects through oral present tions and a poster exhibition. This year, a novel Shark Tank session was included in the program where young researchers could pitch their ideas to a panel of experts. Two of our EMIC researchers (Brahim Mehadji and Reimund Bayerlein) were amongst the finalists. The $50,000 award was eventually handed to Michael Larson to fund his research on a novel suture delivery system e abling ultrasound- guided hernia and prolapse repair.
